Did you know that up to 60% of adult women in the United States self-identify as having ptosis? Ptosis is the drooping of the eyelid, which can be due the aging process. As we have been masked these past few years, the eyes are all in focus! People now more than ever, are concerned with appearance of the eye and eyelids. Upneeq is the first and only FDA-approved treatment for low-lying eyelids (“acquired ptosis”)
Clinical studies have shown, the droopier an eyelid appears the higher perceived age. Ptosis is also associated with the appearance of tiredness and of sadness.
Upneeq is an alternative to ptosis surgery, where a surgeon would shorten the muscle that works to open the eye
If you have drooping of the eyelid (ptosis) you may be a candidate for Upneeq. Ptosis appears in the form of looking sleepy or tired with a heavy upper eyelid. Typically this would require surgery, but now there is an alternative option!
Some patients have a slight droop in the eyelid, but not enough for surgery. This would be a perfect candidate for Upneeq use.
How does Upneeq work?
Once placed in the eye, Upneeq binds to a receptor on the Mueller’s muscle located in the upper eyelid, which causes the eyelid to lift!
What are the potential side effects of Upneeq?
Although not common, side effects could include: Dry eye, red eye, blurred vision, eye irritation, headache
Often times we receive visits from patients from another practice who have had “bad Botox” (not placed in correct area) which results in droopy lids for 3-4 months.
Before Upneeq, there were little solutions to remedy a ptosis caused by incorrectly placed neurotoxin. Now, we are fortunate enough to carry Upneeq, which can help to lift the eyelid into a normal position until the poorly placed toxin has worn off.
