How ECo2 Works

What is the ECO2 Resurfacing Laser?

ECO2 Resurfacing Laser is a laser skin treatment that uses carbon dioxide (CO2) to create tiny micro-injuries in the skin’s surface, which helps stimulate the production of collagen and new skin cells. This treatment is ideal for those who want to rejuvenate their skin and achieve a smoother, firmer, and more youthful appearance without undergoing invasive surgery. The CO2 laser technology targets the skin’s surface, middle, and deep dermal layers. Fractional skin resurfacing has dramatically changed the way providers approach skin resurfacing and wrinkle reduction.

Your provider will discuss your concerns and treatment goals during your consultation. Your results will vary depending on your age, skin type and degree of sun damage, as well as your willingness to tolerate more downtime in a single treatment, versus less downtime from 2-3 treatments. Based on your input and preferences, the fractional resurfacing parameters will be customized to help achieve your goals.

From Consultation to Radiant Skin

What is the CO2 Resurfacing Laser procedure like?

Through Controlled Chaos Technology (CCT™), our CO2 treatment delivers laser beams in a pseudo-random pattern to minimize heat buildup, reduce patient discomfort, and promote faster healing.

This technology allows our providers to perform both superficial and deep skin resurfacing with enhanced safety and efficacy. Skin is healing on the surface and creating new dermal collagen that will continue for up to 6 months. This improved skin quality will translate to a more youthful appearance.

Here’s what to expect during your session:

  • Pre-Treatment: A topical numbing cream is applied to ensure comfort during the procedure.
  • Treatment Process: The laser is passed over the treatment area. The procedure typically lasts 30-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.
  • Post-Treatment: You will experience redness, mild swelling, and a sunburn-like sensation immediately following the treatment. These effects usually subside within a few days, and your skin will begin to heal as collagen production increases.

Tackling Age Spots, Acne Scars, and More

What conditions does CO2 Resurfacing Laser address?

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Smooths out lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead.
  • Sun Damage and Age Spots: Reduces the appearance of sunspots, age spots, and other types of pigmentation caused by UV exposure.
  • Acne Scars: Helps to diminish the appearance of scars caused by acne or other skin trauma.
  • Uneven Skin Texture: Improves the overall texture and tone of the skin, making it smoother and more even.
  • Skin Laxity: Tightens loose or sagging skin, especially around the eyes and mouth, for a firmer appearance.

The Healing Process

Healing depends on the aggressiveness of your customized treatment!

You tell us – conservative, moderate, or aggressive, and this will determine your downtime! Immediately following fractional resurfacing treatment, you will typically experience swelling and redness for 2-5 days. For more aggressive single treatments, the skin may remain red for 1-2 weeks. Normal activities may be resumed in most cases after 5 days.

From Dull to Dazzling

CO2 Resurfacing Laser Results

You will start to notice smoother, more even skin right after the CO2 Resurfacing Laser treatment. However, full results develop over several weeks as collagen production increases.

  • When can I see results? Some improvements can be seen immediately, but optimal results typically appear 3-6 weeks after treatment as the skin continues to heal and regenerate.
  • How long do results last? The results of CO2 Resurfacing Laser can last for several years, especially with good skin care and sun protection. A touch-up treatment may be recommended after 1-2 years to maintain your results.

CO2 Resurfacing LaserFrequently Asked Questions

Everyone experiences pain or discomfort to varying degrees. You and your provider will determine how to minimize your discomfort during the treatment. Topical and injectable anesthetics are usually utilized, and oral medications are prescribed.

Most medium-level to aggressive fractional resurfacing treatments can cause redness that can last 1 week or longer. Usually, no make-up is recommended for one week to ensure skin healing, and regular activities can be resumed after 5 days.

Based on your provider’s customized approach to achieve your goals, the results after a single medium to aggressive treatment can be dramatic and those skin improvement benefits can extend well beyond 6 months. Your provider can help guide expectations for the future improvement in your skin appearance.

Both CO2 and Fraxel technologies are used for skin rejuvenation, but they differ in key ways. Fraxel, which launched in 2000, was the first laser for facial rejuvenation. However, CO2 Fractional Resurfacing is the next generation of laser skin resurfacing, offering the latest in cutting-edge technology. CO2’s micro ablative technology provides more tightening and allows the skin to heal more quickly because the skin’s surface is not ablated simultaneously!

  • Plated Intensive Repair Serum
  • Alastin Skin Nectar
  • Line Free Serum

Most patients see noticeable improvements after just one treatment, but depending on the severity of your skin concerns, additional sessions may be recommended.

CO2 Resurfacing Laser is effective for many skin types, though it may not be suitable for very dark skin tones. During your consultation, we’ll determine if this treatment is right for you.
